Edmund Franklin was declared a lunatic on 9 January 1628, and the Court of Wards entrusted his care to his brothers George, Nicholas and John on 20 January. They after a time took him up to London to be under the care of Dr Crooke. Henry Fitzgeoffrey, Peter Munns and John Negus, however, petitioned on his behalf, saying he had been 'compos mentis' for 3 yrs. On this the Court ordered him to be delivered to Lord St John of Bletsoe. The brothers' exceptions to the petition and petitioners are in Transcript A100.
