  • Scope and Content
'That on Wednesday the twenty third of April last by the direction of Mr Willis I sent my waggoner and team to Furzen Hall Farm to fetch home some wheat to be deposited with me for safe custody in consequence of a robbery having been committed there on the proceeding night - my waggoner brought home sixteen sacks which was put into my chamber where it has ever since remained - I am in the habits of dealing in wheat and accustomed to examine and compare different samples on comparing the wheat brought from Mr Willis's Farm with that now produced by Joseph Sale and alleged by him to have been found in the possession of Edward Albone I can take upon me to swear that the latter must have formed a part of the former my reasons for coming to this conclusion are first, the general similarity of the two samples and the peculiarity of the wheat it being white Dautzie of a very superior and rare description and such as I believe has seldom been seen in this country - I aslo observe that both parcels contain a small quanitity of tares a circumstance by no means usual. The Deponent being asked if he had lately sold any wheat to the prisoner saith I can swear that I have not sold any to him or to his wife since last harvest.' Signed Wm Pope.
