'The information of John Willis and the depositions of Thomas Holland, Thomas Simms, William Pope and Joseph Sale having been read over to the prisoner and the same taken down in his presence and being asked what he hath to say in his defence saith
My wife bought the wheat which Sale found in my House some time ago I have had it two months or better.
Sarah the wife of the prisoner being brought forward by him to confirm his statement saith that the wheat found in her House she bought partly form Mr Pope and partly from Mr Zachary a long time ago and that she mixed it with some Barley.'
