Scope and Content
Differs slightly from QSR1828/392. Mob attacked the house with squibs and crackers, as well as stones. The tar barrel was rolled 'to the boards in front of the new building.' After rolling the barrel to the fence on the opposite side of the road they moved it away and attempted to set one of the cottages alight. it was then that his brother fired into the field. When his brother was hit by the stone he heard someone in the crowd say 'there we've done for him now'. He began to be seriously alarmed 'and begged for my brother to fire at them as the only means of defending our lives and property from total destruction - my brother then fired in a direction over the heads of the mob and I believe shot some of them.' He saw 'a lad of the name of Waller roll the tar barrel. None of the persons who rolled the barrel 'had any of their faces disguised.'
