- Scope and ContentThe deposition of John William Tomlinson of Luton in the County of Bedford, Surveyor to the Town Council of the Borough of Luton taken and made before us Herbert Owen Williams and Robert Smith Tomson Esquire two of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for the Borough of Luton acting in and for the said Borough at the Magistrates Court Luton aforesaid this 13th May 1914 upon the matter of the stopping up and diversion of a portion of a certain footpath on public highway situated at Cowridge End within the Borough of Luton which we the said Justices viewed on 9th April last. The said John William Tomlinson upon his oath saith;- I produced the plan herunto ammended marked 'A' & signed by me, which will describe the present footpath on public highway situated at Cowridge End within the Borough of Luton a part whereof is intended to be stopped up & diverted & the lands though which the proposed footpath or public highway in lieu thereof is intended to be made & also the proposed diverson and the metes bounds and admeasurements marked thereon are correct. I also produce certified copy marked 'B' of the minutes of a meeting held on the 6th December 1910 of the Town Council of the Borough of Luton within which Borough the said footpath or public highway is situated consenting to such stopping up & diversion of the said footpath or public highway. I produce the consent marked 'C' of the owners of the alnds through which the proposedfootpath or public highway is intended to be made consenting to such diversion. I produced a duplicate notice marked 'D' signed by me as surveyor to the said Luton Town Council of the intended application to the Court of Quarter Sessions for an Order for stopping up & diverting a portion of the said footpath.A duplicate of the notice signed by me as aforesaid was affixed on 11th April 1914 by the side of & at each end of the said footpath & at the end of the new footpath or publice highway proposed to be made in lieu thereof & the same notice remained there for the 4 successive weeks as from 11th April 1914 & the same notice was inserted in the 'Luton News' being a newspaper circulated within the Borough of Luton on 16th, 23rd & 30th of April & on 7th May 1914copies of which papers are ammended hereto & marked 'E' 'F' 'G' & 'H' On Sundays 12th 19th & 26th April & 3rd May 1914 the notices were affixed to the doors of the LutonParish Church & St Matthews at Luton.
