    i) Thomas Spence, Hertford, gentleman Daniel Mardell, late of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, now of Hertford, gentleman John Hudson, Hertford, mealman ii) Reverend Edward Lindsell, Broome, Southill, clerk iii) Robert Lindsell, Biggleswade, clerk recites: SL 1/133 whereas: i) put premises hereinafter described up for auction on 29 May 1833, ii) being highest bidder and purchaser, for £660 now, in consideration of £660, i) releases to ii) - garden ground called Cooke’s Close (2 acres) in Broome, Southill N. Cookes Lane E. Broome road S. Lord Ongley W. Rectory land as was for many years since in occupation of Thomas Dun and William Cannon and since of Joseph James as tenant at will - 3 acres 8 perches in Hill Edge field in Broome N. John Barber for tithes E. old enclosures at Broome S.and part W. Lord Ongley remainder part W. Trustees of Southill parish charity estate as was formerly in occupation of Thomas Curte and afterwards of Edward Curte, his son, and was formerly known by name of Bancrofts, otherwise Close Ends, and was late also in occupation of Joseph James Which pieces of land are now laid together and known as Cookes Close - newly erected dwelling house etc. built by Edward Ellis on said land All which said hereditaments and premises are now in occupation of William Chambers as yearly tenant released to use of ii) with remainder to iii) signature i) endorsed receipt witness Edward Robert Spence
