    Edward Ellis, Hertford, timber merchant ..to good friends, Thomas Spence, Hertford, gentleman, Daniel Mardall, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, gentleman, and John Hudson, Hertford, mealman, all freehold and copyhold lands whereof he has power to dispose, in trust for sale. Monies raised to be deemed part of his personal estate. ..after payment of debts etc. personal estate bequeathed to trustees in trust to convert into money such parts as do not consist of money and invest produce in stocks etc. Dividends and interest to be paid to such persons and for such purposes as daughter Joanna Mary Ellis shall direct and in default of such direction into hands of said daughter exclusively of any husband she may happen to marry. After decease of said daughter in trust to transfer all such money to lawful children of such daughter, or as daughter, or her husband, being father of said children, shall appoint. If no appointment then to all lawful children equally – to daughters at 21 or marriage, to sons at 21. Shares of those dying before acquiring vested interest to go to survivors. If children under 21 at date of daughter’s decease then interest to be used for their maintenance and education. If daughter under 21 at his decease money to be used for her education etc. At marriage (and if under 21 if marriage has guardian’s consent) trustees may advance any sum not exceeding £5000 to be settled on daughter exclusively and independently of her husband. Husband may receive interest and dividends for life at daughter’s decease. Provided that if no children of daughter’s marriage, then principal trust fund to be applied to use of testator’s sisters who shall then be living and the issue of such as be dead. Such issue to take parents' share and to be paid at such times etc. as for shares of daughter’s issue. Settlements to satisfaction of trustees to be made for married sisters’ portions allowing husbands of each of them to receive interest and dividends of portion during time he shall happen to survive his wife and if such husband shall refuse to concur in such deed of settlement, trustees directed to retain such portion and pay interest etc. for benefit of said sister and after her decease to divide principal among their children. In case all sisters be dead at decease of said daughter the principal trust monies to next of kin of mother according to statute of distribution. ..to wife Elizabeth £600 in 3% Consols for her own use. Also annuity of £120 as long as she continues a widow and unmarried. ..to natural daughter Lucy Wordsworth, spinster, now living in Dovor Street, Piccadilly, £500 to be settled upon her in such manner as trustees think fit. Is said daughter (Joanna Mary Ellis) and said sisters die without issue then further sum of £500 to said Lucy. If testator dies before Lucy is 21 or before he will have settled upon her the product of an insurance with the Norwich Insurance Company payable on her attaining 21, then gives to her further sum of £500. ..to each of sisters £250 to be paid within 12 months of his decease ..to friend Mr.Thomas Nicholson, Hertford, £25 ..to each of executors £25 ..to said daughter house-hold goods to be delivered to her at 21 or day of marriage. Trustees and executors directed to invest £750 in stocks in trust to pay interest to said sister Ann Tutcher Gilbertson during her life for her own sole use. If she dies before Thomas then to pay interest to Thomas and after decease of survivor of them, £750 to form part of testator’s personal estate ..to each of sisters (except above Ann) £500 to be paid within 12 months of testator’s decease in addition to legacy bequeathed to them Legacy of £500 to Lucy Wordsworth revoked and in lieu trustees to invest £1000 in stocks in trust in like manner as is expressed by insurance with Norwich Insurance Company already settled on her. Lease hold premises to be held on same terms as freehold.
