- Scope and ContentApologises for the delay in responding to George's most recent two letters as he wanted to wait until until George had received his letter from November. Enclosed in the November letter was a letter of credit in favour of George from the Bank of British North America for the amount of £100. The letter was first directed to Horse Shoe Bay and has a good idea of where this is from a map published in a book he's recently read - The North-West Passage By Land by Viscount Milton. Judges by George's previous letters that George is about half way between Victoria and Navarino and in the neighbourhood of Saanich Bay and the Cowitchen River. George has previously mentioned the place Cheminus but can't find any precise information about 'Is this your little settlement, where the Suffolk family live. Nacton where the lady came from is nearer the sea than I am and is famous for the birth place of that gallant Captain Brooke who off Boston Harbour took in fair fight the American frigate Chesapeak in the last war - the story of the Chesapeak and Shannon is a true a British story as was ever written' Is deeply appreciative of the panther skin, which George shot, that George is sending to him. If George let's him know which ship he is sending it on and the owner's name he will ensure that his [Charles's] brother in London will get it through the customs house. 'If possible I will stuff your enemy, for I am very fond of wild beasts and indeed all curiosities.' Was interested to hear of George's proposed arrangement with Messrs Malcolm and Sproat of London to receive lumber from George. George Odell is gradually accumulating property in New Zealand.
