Photocopies and transcripts of letters of the Reverend C.E. Searle of Odell, taken from originals held by the Provincial Archives of British Columbia, deposited by Miss P. Bell. Includes correspondence from descendants of the Searle family to Miss Bell. The Reverend Charles Edward Searle came to Odell in 1856 as a curate, during the absence of the rector, the Reverend Vere Alston, and stayed until 1864 when he moved to his new parish of Earl Stonham. In later years he rose to become Master of Pembroke College, Cambridge. He was a great letter writer and maintained a correspondence with a number of his proteges whom he helped to travel overseas, principally George Thomas Askew. Dispite moving away he kept in touch with the life and affairs of Odell and the letters are full of news from the village in the late nineteenth century.
