  • Scope and Content
I am the wife of Albert Mayne and reside with him at 211 Hitchin Road Luton. On Wednesday the 5th July 1911, I left my house about 6.454 in the morning leaving some money, a watch and a brooch on my dressing table in the front bedroom. I locked up the house and hid the key. I also locked up the back door and hid the key. I returned home about 10 o’clock and night and found the keys in the places I had put them. In the evening of the following day, I wanted the money, which belonged to the children of my Sunday School Clubs. There was about Eight shillings part in silver and part in coppers. When I looked for it it was missing I then looked for my watch and brooch and found them also missing. I at once gave information to the Police. On the 8th July Detective Sergeant Smith produced to me the Gold Watch, the Gold Brooch, the Gold Bracelet, [] produced and identified them as mine. I went with Detective Sergeant Smith to Mr Harman’s the Pawnbroker where my husband’s gold chain was produced to me. That was also missing from my dressing table. The value of the whole of these articles excluding the eight shillings is Ten Pounds. Signed Mary Ann Elizabeth Mayne.
