Facing west, the view shows the civic procession leaving the town hall and heading towards St Paul's Church for the Queen Elizabeth II coronation service. The Mayor [Clement Alexander Edward Charles Howard] and a clergyman [believed to be the vicar of St Paul's, Francis Leolin Hilditch] alongside other members of the Bedford Corporation can also be seen. Two police officers lead the procession - according to the report published in the Bedfordshire Times 5th June 1953, these are Superintendent Frank William Kitchener and Chief Inspector J B Woods.
