    Examinations and depositions: Examination of Richard Tomlinson, Houghton Conquest, toll gate keeper. He was called out of bed at 3 a.m. by two men, one he knew to be Sturges, with a horse. Sturges said he would pay the toll on the way back, which he did between 9 and 10 a.m.. They had a bundle on their horse when they went out but not when they returned. Sturges was very intoxicated each time. Examination of William Dyer, Houghton Conquest, victualler. John Sturges and John Page came to his house at 7 a.m. from the direction of Bedford. They stayed for one to one and a half hours and had about 4 pints of beer each. While they were there James Goodman came into the house and partook of bread and cheese which John Page paid for. Examination of Maria Sharp[e], wife of Thomas Sharp[e], Ampthill. She got up at 2 a.m. hearing a noise in the street. Saw two men she did not know near Samuel Upton's house, one fetched a horse. When he returned one man said to the other 'Hulls', this was repeated by the other man, they then went off in the direction of Houghton Conquest. She found blood at the sport whre the two man had been talking.
