    Examinations and depositions: Examination of William Fane, Ampthill, yeoman. Lost two pigs from his sty durng the night; there was blood in the sty. He heard that two men, John Sturges and John Page, had gone through the Houghton tollgate about 2 a.m. with a horse 'and a burthen on it' and had returned about 9 a.m. minus the burden. He had Sturges and Page apprehended. Examination of Samuel Upton. Heard voices at 2 a.m. and got up thinking someone was about the rob his garden. Could not hear what the two men were saying 'which caused him to draw nearer to the sound by placing himself near to the Summerhouse in the garden when he heard a man say '...my eyes what shall I do when I am by myself?', did not know the voice - nor did he hear any reply. The persons eventually went off towards Bedford. At 6 a.m. was talking to Maria Sharpe about the incident and saw blood where the voices had been coming from.
