  • Scope and Content
    Recitals: That (i) having occasion to borrow £30 has applied to (ii) to advance and lend him the same who has consented thereto upon having the premises, below covenanted to be surrendered, made a security to him for the repayment of the same with interest. Operative part In consideration of £30 paid to (i) by (ii) , (i) covenants, promises and agrees with (ii) to surrender to the Lord of the Manor so that (ii) might be admitted tenant to (and in the meantime (ii) shall be seised, possessed of and interested in): a) cottage or tenement, yard, outbuildings and premises with appurtenances in Sun Street, now in the tenure or occupation of John Beaumont. b) reversion expectant upon the decease of Jesse Rhodes of and in a cottage or tenement and premises with appurtenances in Sun Street, late in the occupation of Edward Fair and now of [ ] Hare. c) reversionary 1/5 part, the whole into 5 parts to be divided, expectant upon the decease or second marriage of Mary Garner (mother-in-law of (i)) of and in 6 several cottages, tenements and dwelling houses, outbuildings, yards and premises with appurtenances in Sun Street, and now in the several tenures or occupations of [ ] Dean, John Francis, George Dill[e]y, William Sear, John Thompson and William Newman. [note: a pencil note in the margin states that (i) was admitted to these premises on 5 May 1837] ... to the use of or in trust for (ii), his heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of the manor subject nevertheless to a proviso for redemption upon payment by (i) of £30 with interest upon 11 November next. Signed, sealed and delivered (and receipted) in the presence of W Thomas Chapman of Biggleswade, solicitor. With (annexed by pin) promissory notes of (i), (witnessed as above), for repayment of principal with interest (11 May 1835) and, dated 25 Sep 1838 (Biggleswade), promising to pay to (ii) £15[?by way of further charge] for value received with lawful interest for the same. The latter note is receipted (on the dorse) and signed by (ii) acknowledging receipt of principal and interest as note viz. £15 3s 8¼d, 24 Dec 1840.
