  • Scope and Content
Will send this evening by the Leamington Coach from the Belle Sauvage, Ludgate Hill a parcel containing reconveyance of some mortgaged premises to Cliff (who discharged the mortgage of £10,000 mentioned in Mr. Cuthbert’s will). Cliff mortgaged lands in Essex to Joseph Cuthbert for £1,200 (29 September 1791) which Cliff paid off on 4 July 1793 but no reconveyance was made and Richard Orlebar is required as heir at law of his mother who was the heiress at law of her father Joseph Cuthbert, for a reconveyance. To execute this and return. This morning saw Mr. Taylor who hopes to pay further sum into Richard Orlebar’s bankers this week as he expected to receive Lord Maynard’s tithes. Told him to collect whole as soon as possible as Richard Orlebar could not sign the release the trustees required until furnished with full account of receipts and payments as the balance paid to William Augustus Orlebar will be mentioned in the release; Richard Orlebar must be satisfied accounts are correct from death of Edward Cuthbert as this precludes claim for incorrect payments of: rents of Walthamstow and Lowhall. Richard Orlebar had thought Mr. Skynner owed a balance when he paid the tithes to Richard Orlebar; if so, to pay it to Richard Orlebar’s nieces . . . Has taken the liberty of charging as a lawyer. Thinks Ann will request Mr. Bagwell to pay William Augustus Orlebar when her dividends are due in about two weeks. Has heard nothing more about the poor rates at Walthamstow. Mr. Warrington wrote to say that at meeting at Walthamstow Monday 15 December nearly all who attended were against enclosure on terms proposed by crown but thinks they would have been favourable if terms had been on more equal proportions; to be another meeting. Decided against sending Robert a “twelfth cake” knowing Miss Bagwell had sent one. Account: £136.2s.4d. October – December 1817 (legal fees; travel)
