Defamatory statement, unsigned, concerning the Reverend Mr. Whitbie, vicar of Podington, and his alleged rude behaviour, chiefly to Mr. Payne. It is also stated that “he lived verie poorelie and kept a schoole”. His wife “scowled” Payne from the church door to his own gate, and he libelled Payne in the pulpit. “He hath caused Payne and Sir Thomas Tyringham to spend C.li in lawe, who were quiett before he came. He hath cited the inhabitants of Podington twice to the Commissaries court.”
