- Scope and ContentI am a straw hat manufacturer carring on business at 92 & 94 Chuch Street Luton. About the end of April last I bought 1000 peiecs of Moire Tagal Plait at 13.1/2pence a piece. I missed 300 pieces last Monday. I saw the plait a 3 weeks ago when it was in quite good condition, first class quality. Had I wanted to buy Moire Tagal Plait on the30th May I should have had to give the same price as when I bought the lot. I am not aware of any place in Luton where I could have bought this plait at even a shilling a piece. Cross exanimed; I have paid more than one & a penny half penny a piece - as much as one & three pence. I bought the plait asI had got an order. If I had not got any order I should still have bought the plait at that price. I should noy have bought the plait if I has comtemplated that I should have no more orders. At the end of the season some people might get rid of the surplus stock, I mean Plait, I have never had any offered to me. If I have a surplus stock I carry it forward to the next season, The plait in question would not deteriorate by keeping. Re- examined Had the season have finished & I had not used this plait up I should not have sold it at 3 pence a piece. Signed George Mitchell Staement of the accused Percy Blindell was charged that on or about 30th May he did unlawfully & felniously steal 300 pieces of Moire Tagal Plait from George Mitchell he was asked if having heard the witness statements he had anything to say, whereupon Percy Blindell said "I Have nothing to say" Taken before me at the Court House Luton, signed Charles H Osbourne, Justice of the Peace
