Scope and Content
'Dear Cirket,
My Father has given me your address, so I am writing to wish you a very happy New Year.
Do tell me how you are faring & what you are doing?
I'm very often on night duty or early or late duty but we haven't much fun yet - the only night we got any quantity of business was when a lot of queer coloured balloons came down in the Essex marshes & coast & we wanted to know whether they contained germs!
Office work was held up for the first three months with somewhat depleted staff but I've now got my full staff again; & we're bringing in the dope [?] as fast as ever. With dozens of treasures arriving.
I go over to Bedford about once a month, to see about my father's work on Beds Parish Registers & between us we are managing to carry on as before. Miss Reavenall, who you may remember as a student assistant about 3 years ago has been temporarily appointed as from last month to look after the office, but her appointment has to be confirmed this month.
Do you remember where the ruling pen & celluloid stup were - ? Still on the shelf at the back of the press at top of stairs?
Have you any news about the office or the old folks at Bedford? Are there any of your Shire Hall friends with you at Rotherham?
I fear you will have got rusty in your Latin! Does Fowler write to you occasionally.
All the very best
Yours sincerely
F Emmison.'
