- Scope and ContentThe Jurors of our Lord the King upon their Oath present that Harry Thompson on the twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and ten unlawfully knowingly and designedly did falsely pretend to Alexander Rastrick that he the said Harry Thompson then was a dealer in hay carrying on business in Bedford in the said County and that he had then been buying lots of hay in the district (meaning thereby the district of Eaton Socon in the said County) And that as such dealer in hay he was then in a large way of business in hay and that he was then in a position to do a good trade in hay and that he was then able to pay for large quantities of hay as and when the same might be delivered to him by means of which said false pretences the said Harry Thompson did then unlawfully obtain from the said Alexander Rastrick a quantity of hay to wit eight tons fifteen hundred weights together of the value of twenty five pounds seven shillings and six pence the property of the said Alexander Rastrick with intent to defraud. Whereas in truth and in fact the said Harry Thompson was not then a dealer in hay carrying on business in Bedford aforesaid and had not then been buying lots of hay in the district of Eaton Socon aforesaid. And whereas in truth and in fact the said Harry Thompson was not then as a dealer in hay in large way of business in hay and was not then in a position to do a good trade in hay and was not then able to pay for large quantities of hay as and when the same might be delivered to him as he the said Harry Thompson well knew at the time when he did as falsely pretend as aforesaid against the form of the Statute in such ease made and provided and against the peace of our Lord the King his Crown and Dignity. Plea: Not guilty Verdict: Guilty Sentence: 12months Hard Labour Second Count And the Jurors aforesaid on their Oath aforesaid do further present that Harry Thompson on the twenty second day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and ten unlawfully knowingly and designedly did falsely pretend to Alexander Rastrick that he the said Harry Thompson then was a dealer in hay and that as such dealer in hay he was then in a large way of business in hay and that he was then in a position to do a good trade in hay and that he was then able to pay for large quantities of hay as and when the same might be delivered to him and that he then had a banking account at Biggleswade in the said County by means of which said false pretences the said Harry Thompson did then unlawfully obtain from Alexander Rastrick a quantity of hay to wit eight tons fifteen hundred weights together of the value of twenty five pound seven shillings and six pence the property of the said Alexander Rastrick with intent to defraud. Whereas the said Harry Thompson was not then a dealer in hay and was not as a dealer in hay in a large way of business and was not in a position to do a good trade in hay and was not then able to pay for large quantities of hay as and when the same might be delivered to him. And whereas in truth and in fact the said Harry Thompson had not a banking at Biggleswade aforesaid as he the said Harry Thompson well knew at the time when he did so falsely pretend as aforesaid against the form of the Statute on such case made and provide and against the Peace of our Lord the King his Crown and dignity. Third Count And the Jurors aforesaid on their Oath aforesaid do further present that Harry Thompson on the twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and ten unlawfully in incurring a certain debt or liability to one Alexander Rastrick to wit of the amount of twenty five pounds seven shillings and six pence did obtain credit to wit credit to the amount of the said debt and liability from the said Alexander Rastrick under false pretences against the form of the Statue in such case made and provided and against the peace of our Lord the King his Crown and dignity. Fourth Count And the Jurors aforesaid on their Oath aforesaid do further present that Harry Thompson on the twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and ten unlawfully in incurring a certain debt or liability to one Alexander Rastrick to wit of the amount of twenty five pounds seven shillings and six pence did obtain credit to wit credit to the amount of the said debt and liability from the said Alexander Rastrick by means of fraud other than false pretences against the form of the Statue in such case made and provided and against the peace of our Lord the King his Crown and dignity. Fifth Count And the Jurors aforesaid on their Oath aforesaid do further present that the said Harry Thompson was on the sixth day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and nine at a Court of Summary Jurisdiction sitting at Chesterfield on and for the petty Sessional Division of Chesterfield in the County of Derby in due form of law convicted of misdemeanour.
