Mama very kindly says she will take Mary back to Ilfracombe with her next Monday, till Xmas or Easter, and Liz says she will do all she can to improve her manners and conversation and will teach her English she is to have masters for music & drawing [crossed out] French (for which I pay). I am very much obliged to them for their kind thought and attention and hope she will profit by them. Liz promises to pay £10 the first year. Mr Phillips and Mr Partridge are arranging about the sale of Bonded Stores today. Willie [son] sent me the enclosed form to sign but as I did not know whether you had given him your banker’s reference I could not do so.” [no enclosures present]
