- Scope and Content“Mr Winter has just been here and returned your letter to me and I have read yours to him. He seems very anxious to see you; all the persons asking and writing for money seem to annoy and worry him, he says Mr Vernon told him that we are still paying on the whole amount of Williams debt and although we have money they are not deducting it from the old account nor giving any interest for it. Willie [son] I fear must not continue the Bonded Stores for Mr Cordy told Mr Winter he would have nothing more to say to him his first business transaction with him should be his late therefore he does not work in a way to get custom but will you write me some form of notice so that Mr Winter and I can sign and send it to him (not as a mother but as business) but who must have the keys of the store? Do you remember you & I had to give them up to Mr Jukes on Whit monday? And of course he must have them when he requires, I do not know whether he would be a safe tenant.”
