Letter from Henrietta Ann Matthews to her brother, Thomas J Hooper. Sent from 35 High St Newport. “At last (after a great deal of talking) the agreement that you sent down to me is signed; we close at 6 tonight and the valuers are to commence their business, I have sent out a load of goods (grocery & clothes) this afternoon and hope to start Bessie and the children tomorrow…I cannot tell you anything about Willies [?William Hooper Matthews] intentions for he has not been home since he left this morning therefore knows nothing of what is going on here now. I think of going to the farm Friday as Cordy comes here Saturday but what am I to say about the £1 the month that Gregory is to pay me. Who is to secure it? Or any other money that is paid on account? If you think it necessary for me to stay in Newport I can go to Mrs Williams in Station Street.”
