Found by Charles Hanley at 2.30 a.m. ‘between the shafts’ of his cart, saw some goods on the floor and picked them up. Charles Hanley handed him over to the constable. Deposition of Thomas Jones. He was in the churchyard at four in the morning, ‘he saw no parcel there’, went to the New George where he heard there was a man in the cage and he went and spoke to him. Left the village about an hour afterwards and was over taken and arrested a mile and a half from Cranfield. Deposition of William Grainger. In churchyard, saw no parcel, joined Thomas Jones and was arrested with him. Deposition of William Jones. Born at Manchester. Served in the ‘Creole’ frigate and lost one arm in a merchant vessel and is incapable of service. He was on his way from Liverpool to London and having no pension begged on the road. Left Cranfield early and overtook Thomas Jones and William Grainger and was arrested with them. Deposition of John Mcgaily who was born at Malta and served in a trading vessel. Falling from the fire yard of this vessel he was maimed and he now wanders about and begs. Leaving Cranfield early in the morning with William Jones they met with the others and were then arrested.
