  • Scope and Content
Deposition of James Stephenson Cardington, farmer against William Woodcraft, gamekeeper to Samuel Whitbread for assault. William Woodcraft struck him with his fists and legs then endeavoured to strangle him. Deponents lip was 'burst' and one of his teeth loosened. James Hilyard came up and on James Stephenson asking if William Woodcraft meant to kill him, he replied 'I do not know that I shall not'. James Hilyard then gave William Woodcraft a pistol which he held at James Stephenson's face and threatened to 'blow his brains out' if he stirred. James Hilyard also struck him several times on the body (see QSR1815/205). See also QSR1815/104, 105, 206, 353 & 392.
