- Date free textThursday 10 July 1919
- Production dateFrom: 1919 To: 1919
- Scope and ContentFrom: 62304 D Company, 1/4th Northants, Egyptian Expeditionary Force, Egypt Dear Mama, I have a little parcel to send home when I can get it safely packed. You may do what you like with the contents. I thought possibly Maude and Gwen might share the ‘gold’ brooch and pendant but I would rather you had one if you would like it. The tea-cosy front is for you and doubtless papa can block the hat into a presentable smoking-cap which will be an improvement on his old caps. I will send home some beads for some of your young friends, Amy etc. My recognition of our padre, Mr Knight was correct and he is playing against us this afternoon. Yesterday I received a card from Les who is at Beirut or Damascus in Palestine. I am writing to him this morning. The 1914 men are all gone from here and large drafts of 1915 are following frequently. Life goes on in the same old way here, with guards nearly every night, as ‘duty’ men are so few. I hope to get a staff job shortly, but anyhow we shall not die of hard work. Please forgive a short letter this time. I am Your loving son Cyril I hope you are all quite well, Maude included. Please remember me to her and to Aunts Jane and Sarah.
