  • Scope and Content
Printed letterhead: ‘Duke of Bedford Soldiers’ Institute. Conducted by Rev HG Reynolds’, ‘Landguard Camp, Felixstowe’ Dear Mama, I spent Saturday with Bob Walker again, and enjoyed myself as much as can be expected, away from all I love. Did I tell you that I heard from Les, the other day. He is having a good time in France and he wished me to remember me to all of you. Mrs Bates also, in a letter I received yesterday, desired me to send her love. I believe I mentioned how much I enjoyed the pie, I love anything like that, and if you ever make ‘tired’ pudding, cake or any solid home-made luxuries I hope you will remember me. We have had no snow but the weather is bitterly cold and the taps in the wash houses are often frozen. Snowfalls of a heavy nature are hardly to be expected at the sea-side. I will manage with those French books for the present, thank you. It was very kind of you to think of them. Stan replied to me and stated that Bob would take me on if he had power and if he had been allowed any influence in the matter, I should have been home by now. What a pity, I did not attempt that commission in the Air Force, for I would have been out, by now. The veil of the future is very opaque. I did not write on Saturday because of my outing with Walker, but I wrote on Sunday. Well, good-bye mama dear and please give my love to all. All fellows who joined or attested under the Derby scheme in 1915 are to be released from here. I may be ‘unlucky’ but we must hope on. Your’s lovingly Cyril
