  • Scope and Content
Printed letterhead: ‘Duke of Bedford Soldiers’ Institute. Conducted by Rev HG Reynolds’, ‘Landguard Camp, Felixstowe’ Dear Louis, I have no doubt you will see the letter I received from Anstee yesterday. I do not want to go back to the miserable hole, but I have ‘got the wind up’ about the chances of returning to the Cars [Commer Cars], as I have received no reply from Mr Coxhead. I want to get out of this and earn some money but my chances seem small at present although the unexpected may happen. When I filled my Z16 form I stated that the Cars [Commer Cars] would be re-employing me and should they send for confirmation, I am doubtful of the issue. Reports as to slackness of work etc are very alarming and we think that it is being purposely done to make the released men sufficiently fed up to rejoin the army. I shall be glad of any information you can send me. Bob Walker says they are offering sixpence an hour for skilled jobs and sacking hundreds. Kathie’s brother Leonard is home on leave from France and states that in a big row over there a hundred fellows were killed. Fancy coming through this lot and then getting knocked out, and what a horrible shock it must have been to their relatives. Hurry up and get married so that I can get a leave, Louis, will you? I am feeling awfully fed up and impotent. That’s the right word, for we seem to be as helpless as babies in arms. I am writing to Maude to-night. Good-bye, remember me to Frank Edgar, etc I am Yours lovingly Cyril
