  • Scope and Content
Dear Louis, Papa has made an error concerning that cutting, for I believe you will both remember that our dusky ‘comrade’, bears the unpronounceable name of Gnana Volivu. But the cutting is certainly worthy of him. The news is very bright, I admit, and though I even now am holding my hopes strongly in check, I have never for some weeks wavered in the conviction of a speedy ending. Surely the stricken world once tasting peace will not start fighting again, even though there be trouble over the settlement. The armistice terms are very severe, but as they only tend to lower Germany’s military prestige, the now democratised government may accept them. I am sorry to hear of Fred Hoar’s death. How is Frank Edgar getting on? Please remember me to him and to Phil, Bert and Frank Chalk. You need not worry yourself about me, but I certainly shall require some gloves. I am Your loving brother [Lou crossed through] Cyril
