  • Scope and Content
Dear Mama, I have started drilling now and as far as the army goes I am getting on alright. It was a ‘gas parade’ this morning and ‘slow marching’ afterwards then physical training till dinner, slow marching again and a lecture till tea time. When deeper in training we are busy until 6pm, and sometimes later. Please do not worry until the worst happens, for you never ‘know what may turn up’ as Mr Micawber says. I shall send no money home this week because I thought about having my photograph taken, not for sake of vanity as you may judge, and I have been forced to spend most of my money on food when travelling. Next week however, I shall be able to send some, I hope. I can stand the life, I think, unless some internal part [cracks]. Please write fairly frequently, won’t you. I received your letter this morning and it was a very great relief to me. I am Your loving son Cyril
