- Scope and ContentDear Mama, I was not able too get a pass today, although the colour sergeant, has promised that if I hear nothing tomorrow he will procure one for me then. Yesterday evening I managed to get out in the company of Mann, whose people are coming down on Saturday, and while I visited the barber, he went to Miss Adams and arranged for them to stay there. The food yesterday was fearful, but today it was very good. I shared my extra rations with Stephen Mann and we were both very grateful for them, but if I am not able to get home to tell you, let me write now, that you must not spend a lot of money on food for me. You may send stamps and paper when I require them. Please give my love to Louis and Papa, and to Maude and please don’t be too down-hearted if things don’t go quite as we wish. I am worried more by the thought that it would upset you if I were put into the infantry, than the actual thoughts of it. I have not much to relate, as I have nothing to do. Stephen Mann is a splendid fellow and I wish I could keep in his company, but of course that is impossible. So, Goodbye, and please cheer up for the sake of Papa and Louis as well as myself. I am Yours lovingly Cyril
