- Scope and ContentLetter to Matthews states that Downe was examined but did not have all the letters with him. 'They tried to show on cross examination that there were stores on board and that he was told not to buy further stores until he got to Gibralter, that he sold the ships stores and part of the cargo and pocketed the cash, and that he received money on account of freight and had been arrested just as the ship was started and paid his own debts out of the owners money.' Asks Matthews to see Mr Wilks the broker and find out what he can from him.
