Scope and Content
”My dear Brother, I congratulate you on having another olive branch added to your number and am glad to hear all is progressing well. I was in Bristol the beginning of last week and since then have been daily haymaking otherwise I should have written sooner. Had this day been fine I should have finished mine it was commenced Friday week. Now of course the time is uncertain but I have secured eleven out of the 15 acres. Mother was to get Marne’s Bill and then you could arrange about your House she said he considered himself liable to rent up to Michaelmas. I was obliged to alter the Residuary Acct as after you left I thought of the £2000 we were directed by the will to pay to the Trustees of the Marriage Settlement. The sum total remains the same and the office has passed the Accounts so we shall be free from paying further probate Duty. Your affect Benm Matthews.”
