  • Scope and Content
Mr. Purvis is on a visit to Lady Marchmont; he is a well bred, agreeable young man. 'I do not find things are finally settled concerning the English property but tho' the subject is little spoke of, I understand all parties agree to adjust things in the best manner possible but the Will, I believe, is not yet proved. I have no other desire than to have my sister contented....' Other comments relating to Lady Marchmont's property arrangements. Sorry for the loss of Sir John Sebright to the neighbourhood. [Sir John Saunders Sebright, 6th Baronet died February 1794]. 'We cannot quite comprehend if the new maid of honour is sister to Lord Cathcart, she must be considerably younger than the others if it is so.' [Refers to Catherine Charlotte Cathcart, who was appointed a Maid of Honour to Queen Charlotte in 1794. She was the brother of William Schaw Cathcart, 1st Earl Cathcart]
