- Scope and ContentLady Rivers set out on Wednesday. Comments about the correspondence between the writer and Lady Polwarth. Mention of the writer's health and that of Lord Polwarth. Reference to Lady Betty MacKenzie being disturbed about little short wigs, and places confidence in the full bottom sort. Heard that Lady Thanet's fever was of a putrid kind and lasted 21 days. She was sensible and resigned through the whole of it, and begged her lord to give some remembrances for her to her two cousins, Mrs Pigot and Miss Wrottesley. [Refers to Lady Mary Tufton, wife of Sackville Tufton, 8th Earl of Thanet]. Mention of Mis Gregory who is to stay the winter with Lady Polwarth. Writer is to attend the theatre tonight. Would like to see The School for Scandal. 16 October - writes about the play seen the night before.
