April 1916 letter from Vauxhall re. complaint by Mr Facer 'who has the use of a field adjoining our works but on the Luton Hoo estate. He complains that owing to the bad state of repair which the fence at present is in, his field is being made use of by the public and in consquence his crops are being seriously damaged. We understand that the upkeep of this fence is a a matter for the estate.' 1919-20 - negotiation for the purchase by Vauxhall of 18 acres adjacent to their works. The land was part of the model farm rented by Mr Facer. From June 1919 also questions about the purchase of other land that was part of the Model Farm. In September this sale related to about 58 acres 1 rood 28 poles. In November 1919 Vauxhall declined the purchase of land at the foot of Someries Hill, which the estate then proposed to make into allotments. The sale of the 58 acres was completed in December. The estate felt that notice to quit was the responsibility of the purchaser but in response to a statement of claim by Mr Facer Vauxhall wrote 'We agreed to purchase the farm from Luton Hoo on condition that we got possession. We ourselves, never gave Mr Facer notice to quit, and it was not until the beginning of December that the purchase of the Farm was completed, by which time Mr Facer had already left' 5 Feb 1920. This correspondence continued until Vauxhall admitted their liability to Mr Facer. There was then similar issue over tax payable and when vacant possession was given to Vauxhall. March 1920 correspondence re possible footpath diversion.
