Estate documents including deeds and other documents of title, accounts, inventories and valuations, livestock records, rentals, repairs ledgers, sale catalogues, wages books, correspondence.

Documents deposited by Mr N Phillips in 1978 and subsequent deposits by the estate. Additional deposit of estate material from Mrs. Oonagh Kennedy, Curator, on 18 February 1992. These records were partially listed by volunteers at Luton Hoo (on the advice of the County Archivist and under the supervision of the Curator) prior to transfer. The aim was to prepare a detailed list, with information on every letter in each bundle. The papers were listed as found to preserve archival groupings, although it was clear from an initial inspection that in many cases the order of the papers within files was very muddled. Some detailed lists were produced and typed, but the work was never finished. When the records were transferred to the County Record Office it was found to be difficult to match them with the lists. The lists have been kept (ref: LHE 387), but they have not been used in compiling the following catalogue. The records were arranged (but not sorted or weeded) and listed by Nicola Williams (a work-experience student) and Chris Pickford (County Archivist) in June 1993. Because of the format and mixed contents of the correspondence files, the descriptions given below are necessarily general. Some interesting items may have been overlooked, and the dates given for each file may not be accurate.
