    I request my honoured Master Samuel Whitbread, esquire, to accept a ring as a testimony of the gratitude and affection of an old servant. executors: William Wilshere of Hitchin, Hertfordshire esquire and Joseph Barnard of Bedford, merchant estate in Shillington to be sold to my honored and aged father James Thompson who was born in 1698 the interest for life of £800. on his death to my sister Isabel Field, £100 and to her two daughters Frances and Mary, £50 each to two nieces Mary Ann and Sophia, daughters of late brother James Thompson, deceased, £100 each to friend Samuel Robinson of Hull, ships chandler, 20 guineas to Catherine Smith of Hitchin, £10 Mr Wilshere to please accept 5 guineas for a ring to Mr Barnard, 5 guineas and all my guns, pistols, pictures and books to godson, 5 guineas to Mr Jackson, surgeon in Bedford, 5 guineas to Robert Jones and Dinah Sawyer, both servants at the Barns, £5 each residue to executors in trust to apply interest to maintain and educate and apprentice my son John Smith (by said Catherine Smith) during his minority, and then to hand him what remains when he attains age 21 should son die before then, then to each of nieces Mary Ann and Sophia Thompson, £100 each, and residue between nieces France and Mary Field made 15 Mar 1802 codicil: 5 guineas each to old friends Mr Isaac Coxall and Mr Joseph Halstead [testator died May 1814] proved Prerogative Court of Canterbury by Joseph Barnard 7 March 1818. sworn under £1000 Mr Wilshere died 2 September 1824 Mr Barnard died 28 August 1825, having made a will dated 11 June 1825, appointing son Thomas Barnard sole executor will proved Prerogative Court of Canterbury 22 Sep 1825
