  • Scope and Content
Learns from Mr Baldock that you think he labours under a mistake as to your late brother's intention regarding the division of Southill & Warden Parishes, which writer in the first place proposed. If the living was endowed with the same sum as he paid to the curate (£150), the Ecclesiastical Commissioners would give the same sum as a permanent endowment. He agreed to this, but later said he would first endow it with £50; and when he got £50 from the Commissioners would endow it with another £50; & so on; as he heard the Commissioners would only grant £50 at a time. He said it would make no difference to Mr Baldock's income as he would make up the £150 per year privately - writer did not get this in writing, as he thought with a Whitbread his word was his bond. On that basis the Bishop agreed to division of livings. Is sure S C Whitbread will do what is right.
