  • Scope and Content
Much impressed with kindness of sentiments on subject of my Son's marriage. I go with you in all your anticipations of the happy results from this marriage. Sam & his Julia came after having passed what is usually called their Honey Moon at the Hoo (Lord Dacre's) but if appearances be not deceitful, this Honey will be of long duration. They have now gone on an excursion in company of Emma & Charles Lefevre to Waldegraves in Somersetshire. 2 pages attached to 8 refer to marriage of William Henry in 1819 .... Grateful for all you say - have prescribed for myself a line of conduct - to submit to occasional intercourse - anything approaching intimacy or familiarity must be avoided - short of that I shall exert myself to promote my Son's happiness - excuse my hurrying over subject - too painful to dwell upon longer than necessary - to prove I am thankful to you for giving your opinion freely - am gratified to find it coincides with my own & that it strengthens me to proceed affectionately, circumspectly, consistantly - so as neither to disappoint nor give offence.......…"
