Gives extracts from General Gordon's letter dated 5 Oct. English principal battery in front of Burgos destroyed; siege must proceed by mining; 800 men already lost before this miserable & inadequate object. Army 5 months' pay in arrear; in debt to mule-drivers about £1,000,000. Our force about 55,000 of which only 35,000 effective. Should Napoleon finish in the north, he can finish us in Spain & Portugal. Describes magnificent retreat of French from Valladolid & Burgos.
