Mary refers to the death of Louisa and the health of her own daughter, Flora; 'This valuable wife and mother removed in an instant and my poor suffering child spared to linger on, unable to be of any use to anyone.' Mary also refers to 'Georgie' receiving letters from the Cape [presumably letters to Georgiana Knox, from [William] Stuart Knox]. He is very dispirited about himself and dejected. 'I cannot see what they are to do with him as a helpless cripple.' Mary comments that Georgiana is hard to get on with.
