  • Scope and Content
"This card has a faintly familiar look - and I am wondering if I have sent one like it before - but I send it with best wishes for Many Happy Returns. There is very little news to relate, as I think I told you in my last letter what my plans for 1962 are. I am expecting my Swedish friend Valter Wifstrand for Easter, and then I go over to France for a few weeks. I am due to join a friend in Munich on June 4th for a holiday touring all the castles built by the mad King Ludwig, which will take us into the Bavarian Alps. I may go on to Munich without returning to England but I shall see. I shall be back here for the first part of July, then up to Yorkshire, and on to Scotland for August: back here in September. At the end of October, I sail from Trieste for a trip to the Far East, touching at various places en route, and I shall be away 5 months. I think I told you that Sydney Crouch has bought the flat next door to me. He takes over on April 4th. Thanks for the "Ampthill News" - I am reading a wonderful book - "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" (W.L. Shirer) - over 1000 pages: but most absorbing. A very happy birthday! Yours sincerely,"
