Gives thanks for letter hinting that he may be allowed to go to Malta. Has just heard that his estates in the Venetian Dominions and the Tyrol have been confiscated by the French, who are most hostile to him. He cannot go to Malta or any other place with safety if banished from England by the Government, and certainly not without pecuniary assistance.
