    Pupils occasionally mentioned by name generally in relation to special events such as attending safety first demonstrations, or awards for sport, but occasionally due to having been taken to hospital due to accidents. Staff often mentioned by name. Contents include: 5/6/46 'At 3.45 today the whole school entered the Boys' playground to watch a netball match between combined girls and boys and staff versus our school netball team. This was part of our Victory Celebrations prevented on Tuesday by rain.' 7/6/46 At 11.30 today the King's message was distributed to all scholars (Victory 1946). 17/9/47 Since today we have changed our times of school closure - this week at 12.5 and 4.5 the Boys' Dept at 12.15 and 4.15. We shall alternate each week. This is due to the safety exit to Leagrave Rd becoming a DANGER when 850 boys and girls some with cycles use it at the same time (erected for Sep 8th). 14/11/47 School closed at 4.15 today for a day's holiday on the occasion of Princess Elizabeth's wedding. 20/2/48 Today due to a Food Van accident school meals were delayed. Mrs Nortrop interviewed me at 12.15 and we were advised to send home all who lived near enough & could have a home meal. Only 75 remained & had a makeshift meal from Manor Rd Central Kitchen from 1.25-2pm. Staff made arrangements to reduce staff numbers to NIL needing food in school. Infants and Girls had the meal together to ease matters. page 92 HMI report. 10/9/48 481 on roll. 'For extra accommodation we use the second hut in the playground, but the craft room is shared for registration for 3rd yr III and 2 yr III. The meal target figure is now 215, so it is necessary to use both DS rooms to accommodate 75 staff and older girls, & the service of those meals is carried out from the upstair corridor.' 27/10/48 Today 30 girls were absent (exempted) from school to assist in potato picking. This continued for two more days (6 sessions - War Agric Asson). 3/4/49 This week is Pedestrian Crossing Week. Notices were sent home by every girl to encourage the use of Pedestrian crossings at all times. 29/7/49 The Hd Tchr informed both assemblies of a serious cycling accident to Pat Sainsbury, aged 13 years at 5.30pm the previous evening. 30/7/49 Pat Sainsbury passed away in Hospital at 4.10pm today. 6/2/52 At 11.25am I was informed by phone of the nation's sudden loss - the death of King George VI. I assembled the whole school at 11.35, gave them the news and said two prayers for the Royal Family. 9/6/53 At 1.40 Registers called. At 2pm whole school 213 present & Hd Tchr & 10 staff set off for the Coronation picnic on the Warden Hills. 10/6/53 This am school assembled early, registers called, & school at 9am left the playground each form with its mistress for the Odeon cinema to see the film 'A Queen is Crowned'. 215 girls were in their seats by 9.30 am with staff (one girl remained here, parents wish, with a Junior Form in Rm4). 15/7/55 'I Constance May Parish resign from the position of Head Mistress of this school and retire from the teaching profession because of home commitments.
