Requesting advice concerning his wife's losses made during the War, owing in part to the French by their capture of Caribbean Islands, St. Vincent in particular. Queen of Naples wrote to her sister [Queen of France?] asking for help for Mrs. Swinburne, she also directed her to make some application for indemnification. Mrs. Swinburne went to Paris and was received by Queen of France. She was given grant of Crownlands in St. Vincent. In the case of it being restored to England they promised it would be secured to her by Treaty. Assumes it has been done as M. de Vergennes had the King & Queen's express commands. Have just received copy of Patent which Mrs. Swinburne had left with M. de Castries in Paris. Chevalier Jerningham says Queen anxious to have matter settled. Comte du Moustier present when Jerningham and Queen spoke on subject. Swinburne asks what sort of confirmation may be requisite on this side of the water that Mrs. Swinburne may let Queen know if any difficulties arise. Copy of Patent enclosed [L 30/14/370/14].
