Scope and Content
Account of the abortive attempt to compound with J Lancaster's creditors. He must be made bankrupt. Dukes of Kent and Sussex are anxious that the institutions should not fall to the ground and wish to have a meeting. Asks a convenient time. Has drawn up a code of rules. The whole of the £1500 subscribed privately to Joseph Lancaster has been spent. The debts are £7000, assets £4500, which when sold will only realise £2200. Fears that bankruptcy will injure the institution.
