    is only son of Ann Ratliffe (before her marriage, Ann Horwood, spinster) by William Ratliffe has a bible in his possession which he acquired on death of his mother in 1801 and which he has always believed was the family Bible of her parents Gabriel and Mary Horwood, of Leighton Buzzard. It contains the following entries: 3 December 1744 marriage of Gabriel Horwood and wife Mary 7 August 1745 birth of stillborn boy 4 June 1746 birth of Mary Horwood (died as an infant) 16 July 1747 birth of Gabriel Horwood (died as an infant) 7 July 1748 birth of Mary Horwood (married Joseph Martin - no children) 20 July 1750 birth of Elizabeth Horwood (married Joseph Lawley - no children) 21 November 1752birth of Ann Horwood 24 April 1754 birth of Sarah Horwood (died as an infant) 2 December 1756 birth of Gabriel Horwood (died as an infant) 2 July 1764 birth of of William Summers Horwood (married Catherine Birdsey) the son of William Summers and Catherine Horwood named Gabriel died about 9 years since, intestate and was buried at Old Brentford William Ratliffe married Ann Horwood at Leighton Buzzard 1773. He [said declarant] was their first born child and was baptised at Hockliffe in 1774. Cannot find entry in register but has silver table spoon marked "The Gift of Thomas Gilpin Esquire to his Godson William Ratliffe 1774" [the baptism is recorded in the Bishop's Transcripts as taking place in September 1774] He was admitted on May 1842 to small piece of land at Leighton Buzzard as cousin german of Gabriel Horwood 2 Mar 1849
