- Admin/biog historyThe solicitor's Messrs E T Ray, 6 Church Squre, Leighton Buzzard was founded before 1861 by Henry Pettit, a member of the well known Leighton Buzzard family. Later it was Pettit, Walton & Co, subsequently Walton & Ray.
- Accession numbers 1547, 2125, 2131, 2614
- Scope and ContentThe documents are on the whole late in date, and much of the Leighton Buzzard material appears to be connected with property bought by Henry Pettit himself at the end of the nineteenth century, and later developed. There is a considerable amount of information about Leighton Buzzard inns. The house of the Willis family (also Leighton Buzzard solicitors catalogue BO) had once been the Cock Inn (RY515-522). The title deeds of Eggington manor are of interest (RY1-45), and also documents showing the descent from 1740 of Heath House, opposite the church, which had once belonged to Hillersden Frank (RY816-841, 735-741).
