Scope and Content
Was engaged as tutor to the Whitbread children in 1802 (W1/2184). Took over a boarding school in Biggleswade in 1810 (W1/2212), against the advice of Samuel Whitbread II. His persistent money troubles are the main subject of the correspondence, with SWII frequently assisting him. His last letter in 1815 (W1/2263) refers to his finally selling up in Biggleswade, settling with his creditors, and leaving with his family for London.
