contains /1. Letter to Mr Longmire from I Pennington of St John’s College reciting an extract from college register for 16 February 1668 regarding a George Longmire. 7 January 1776 /2. Short Verses written on New Year’s Day 1821 /3. Letter from Reverend Longmire of Wingfields, Wiltshire to D Barton Esquire, Woodbridge, Suffolk: Writer wishes to know more of Mr Barton’s history as the general pensive train of his poems, preference of the autumn season and several other allusions convinces him that Mr Barton has suffered “some grievous loss (I conjecture of a female friend either previous to or soon after marriage) seems to dwell upon your mind and tinge your trains with a pleasing melancholy … “How different is the melancholy of the resigned Christian to the dreadful gloom that pervades the infidel trains of Lord Byron.” Writer has a poetical neighbour, the Reverend Mr Crabbe, but he is not a Christian poet and they have no intercourse, though he is amiable in many respects. Writer would like to converse with Mr Barton on the Songs of Saul but Mr Barton may not have had an opportunity of studying classical lore. Writer prefers English writers to any Greek, Latin, Italian or French. Milton and Cowper are worth them all. 11 December 1824 /4. Printed pamphlet, “Two Letters on Cow Keeping by Harriet Martineau”. 2nd Edition 5 October 1850 /5. Letter from Eleanor Thursby, Castle Riding Rectory, Kings Lynn to “Sir”, acknowledging cheque for £50. Endorsement: short pedigree of Longmire and King families. 4 March 1902 /6. Letter from Latter & Willett, solicitors, Bromley, Kent to M A Longmire, Fairbank: Only documents sent to writers in November 1908 when it was proposed to sell the Lavendon cottage were the old deed of 7 October 1803 and a pedigree. Now returns these documents as requested. 28 September 1909
